Professor Alachi, James Atu was born in Owukpa, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State in 1954. He is an indigene of Orokam, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State. Prof. Alachi attended the Wesley Primary School, Adum – Oko Orokam from 1960 – 1966. He later went to St. Malachy’s College Minna from 1967 – 1971 and A. B. U Zaria from 1975 – 1978 from where he obtained the B.A Degree Drama with a second class upper. He later attended the University of Ibadan and obtained the M.A. and Ph.D. Theatre Arts in 1983 and 1990 respectively. Prof. Alachi also obtained a Diploma in Health Promotion from the Leeds Metropolitan University in 2003.

Prof. Alachi started his working career at the college of Education Kastina-Ala as an Assistant Lecturer in 1980 and rose to the rank of a Chief Lecturer in 1992. He joined the services of the Benue State University in 1992 as a Lecturer 1 and became a Professor in 2003. Prof. Alachi joined the services of the National Open University of Nigeria in 2009 as the Study Centre Director in Otukpo, a position he occupies till date.

Prof. Alachi has consulted for many international and local organizations like, UNICEF, DFID, BHF, etc. and has been a mentor to NGOs like the YMCA, Project Agape, ECJP etc. He has also served as the Council Chairman, Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri and is presently the Chairman, David Mark Scholarship Foundation. Prof. Alachi is married to Dr. Omada Alachi and they have six children.
